What is Perch?
Perch is a simple net worth tracker: you enter your balances once a month and watch the trend.
Your money doesn't live in one place.
Super sits on your provider's site, your mortgage with your lender's app, HECS under your MyGov account, shares with your brokerage. Seeing how you are doing overall is not an easy task, especially when you want to see the wider trend.
Perch started as a spreadsheet that was updated once a month. This worked, and provided more clarity on my finances.
But over time, and as I got more invested in personal finance, I wanted something that was tailor made. So I built Perch as a pleasant, optimised experience that didn't sacrifice clarity.
An important factor when creating Perch was to be flexible. While automation is handy, it comes with a few caveats:
- Not every platform you use supports data integration.
- Your financial data is sensitive; opening up your accounts for integration comes with security risks. Perch never touches any of your logins (it won't even know which platforms you use).
- Almost counterintuitively, removing yourself from the process can make the data easier to ignore. The act of filling out the data yourself can make you more aware of the details of each account.
It's built by one person, in Australia, for anyone with any level of financial expertise. If you have any feedback or requests, I'd love to hear it at help@perchmoney.app.
